Summer 2026

Travel may define summer for many folks, but I have always found just as much joy in spending time close to home. There’s a particular satisfaction to rediscovering my own backyard, whether it’s browsing for a new-to-me piece at Reclamation (check out its new West Street location!), seeing what chef Sera Cuni is cooking at Cafe Root Cellar or cooling off with a pint at Thirsty Skull Brewing.

And while those are my go-to’s, there’s always more to uncover. This issue, we visit FireClay Cellars, where distinctive varietals and a hands-on approach to winemaking are putting a local spin on a global craft (page 32). You’ll also find a guide to some of our favorite shops, restaurants and destinations in Siler City.

We’re also exploring the idea of “Next Chapter, Best Chapter” – and while it anchors our annual retirement guide, the stories in this section offer a broader perspective on growth, reinvention and staying engaged in the community at any stage of life.

We hope you discover experiences that make life here richer, whether it’s a new favorite hiking trail, a new connection or a small business worth supporting. Another summer in Chatham County – what a gift.– Morgan Cartier Weston, executive editor
