Some local businesses are reopening as regulations shift to Phase 2 of Gov. Roy Cooper’s executive order. During Phase I, the order removed the distinction between essential and non-essential businesses. Retail businesses opened at 50% capacity and required customers to stand six feet apart, perform frequent cleanings, provide hand sanitizer when available, screen workers for symptoms and more. The order also allows people to leave their homes for commercial activity at any business that is open.
Gov. Cooper moved the state into a modest “Safer-at-Home” Phase 2, which went into effect on May 22 at 5 p.m. Phase 2 allows restaurants to open at 50% capacity for dine-in customers. Personal care services, like hair salons, can also open at 50% capacity, as can swimming pools. Bars, gyms, public playgrounds and indoor entertainment venues like movie theaters and concert halls will remain closed. No more than 10 people can congregate indoors and no more than 25 outdoors.
If you are a Chatham business that is reopening, please send us a note along with your hours and guidelines, and we will add you to our list!
