Memorial Day Film Series – Taking Chance

“Taking Chance” is the remarkable true story of one solder’s death in battle, another solder’s journey of discovery and a nation’s reverence and gratitude toward its war dead. Lance Corporal Chance Phelps (USMC) was only nineteen years old when he was killed during active duty. Now, as Lance Corporal Phelps is prepared for his final journey back home, Lieutenant Colonel Michael Strobl (Kevin Bacon), a volunteer military escort officer, makes it his personal mission to ensure that his fallen brother is laid to rest with the proper respect.
This film was produced for HBO in 2009 and won 7 awards, including a Golden Globe, a Primetime Emmy, and a Screen Actors Guild award. It was also nominated for 27 other awards, including the Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize.
Film series continues Wednesday with “Arlington: Film of Honor” and Thursday with “The Unknowns: Duty, Honor, Sacrifice.”
