‘McMasters’ Will: The Scheme that Almost Freed Us’ by Calvin Dark
In recognition of Black History Month in February, Chatham Community Library will sponsor a lecture by Calvin Dark, a native of Siler City. The program is titled “McMasters’ Will: The Scheme that Almost Freed Us.” The program will discuss Dark’s great-great-grandfather, Aaron McMasters, who was promised freedom by his enslaver, Simeon McMasters, upon his death and the support of the local Quaker communities whose help Simeon McMasters sought.
